Safe operation

Good water quality depends on correct operation and maintenance

An Atmospheric Water Generator is a drinking-water system as well as a refrigeration appliance. To keep water clear, fresh and suitable for drinking, the owner or operator must follow the model-specific operator manual, service schedule and applicable site water-hygiene requirements throughout the life of the unit.

Important: The operator/user manual supplied for the specific WatAir model is the controlling instruction for operation, cleaning, sanitisation, filter and treatment-component replacement, shutdown and recommissioning. If the manual is unavailable or a procedure is unclear, contact WatAir before returning the unit to drinking-water service.

Why maintenance matters

An AWG continuously brings air, condensed water, filtration, treatment components, storage and dispensing surfaces together. Filters, UV or other treatment stages, tanks, drains, air paths and connected storage all need to remain in the condition specified for the system. Missed maintenance can reduce performance and can also compromise water quality.

Owner and operator responsibilities

After installation and handover, the purchaser, owner and operator are responsible for operating and maintaining the equipment and any connected tanks, pipework or distribution system in accordance with the model-specific instructions and the requirements that apply at the installation site.

  • Carry out cleaning, sanitisation, inspection and servicing at the intervals stated in the operator manual.
  • Replace filters, UV lamps/modules and other consumable treatment components at the specified interval or capacity, and use suitable approved replacement parts.
  • Keep tanks, dispensing points, air paths, drains and connected water-system components clean and protected from contamination.
  • Follow the prescribed shutdown, draining, flushing, sanitising and recommissioning procedure after extended inactivity, a relevant power interruption, maintenance work or suspected contamination.
  • Keep appropriate maintenance and service records, particularly in commercial, workplace or managed-premises installations.
  • Where required, ensure competent people carry out servicing, water-hygiene controls and risk assessments.

After inactivity or a water-quality concern

Do not assume stored water remains suitable for drinking after an extended shutdown or other event outside normal operation. Follow the model-specific procedure before returning the machine to drinking-water service. If required cleaning, sanitisation, flushing or treatment-component replacement has been missed, complete the required corrective work first.

Stop dispensing water for drinking and investigate if there is an unusual taste, odour or appearance, a treatment-system fault or alarm, suspected contamination, overdue hygiene maintenance, or any other reason to doubt water quality. If in doubt, isolate the drinking-water function as appropriate and contact WatAir or a competent service provider.
